Barbara Gordon: Cold, humorless bitch.
This one is for the very awesome staypositiveforyoursilverlining, who requested a photoset demonstrating that Barbara Gordon is, in fact, an incredibly warm and loving person with an awesome sense of humor, and not the hard and emotionless jerk that fandom sometimes makes her out to be.
I love this request, and I loved working on the photoset, because this tendency to interpret Barbara very simplistically is something I’ve noticed and been annoyed by myself. (Interpreting characters simplistically is a problem fandom suffers from in general.) Barbara is, indeed, an incredibly tough person, and she can be very coldly logical as well. She also has an unfortunate tendency to push away the people close to her at times. But those qualities don’t solely define her character. She is a deeply nurturing person, a very loving friend, and warmly affectionate toward the people she loves. She’s also incredibly fun-loving and loves to laugh and joke around with people. And that’s a huge, huge part of who she is. If you overlook Barbara’s sense of humor and her openly affectionate nature, you’re reducing her to a one-dimensional caricature of who she really is.
There are probably a hundred moments I could have used for this photoset, because it’s not like being warm or funny is something Barbara does once a decade. It’s a major part of her personality. But obviously, I had to cut it down to ten scenes because of tumblr’s photoset layout. There are some moments I wish I’d had room for, but I think overall the photoset still demonstrates the point well. :-)
I think most of you guys know by now but yeah staypositiveforyoursilverlining is my personal blog so I sent in this request to Luanna and she did an amazing job! I just got so sick of seeing posts in Barbara’s tag that made her out to be this cold, humorless person. Because as Luanna perfectly said (and showed) there’s so much more to her than that!
